![]() In support of parents hoping to engage young minds with reading or listening to the Harry Potter stories, the interactive, visually rich Starting Harry Potter online hub features a variety of activity pages designed especially to help new readers explore and learn more about different elements of the wizarding world – from understanding how students get to Hogwarts, learning how to pronounce wizarding words, to exploring mini biographies on the characters they will meet in the first book. The National Literary Trust has found that children who are most engaged with reading are 3 times more likely to have higher levels of wellbeing than those who are least engaged. Similarly, there are a host of developmental, social and emotional benefits from curling up with a good book. According to national literacy agency, BookTrust, for children in particular, listening to a story exposes them to a wider vocabulary, encourages independent active play, and fosters a long-term interest in reading. Digital technology has meant listening to audiobooks has never been easier. Research by the National Literacy Trust last year indicated how listening to a story from an early age helps improve a child’s language and literacy development, benefiting their reading skills, mental wellbeing and emotional intelligence. To celebrate Starting Harry Potter, the first Harry Potter audiobook is available to stream free on Alexa from Audible in English, French, German, Spanish, Italian and Japanese, beginning on July 1 st and through August 15 th by saying: “ Alexa, read Harry Potter Book One.” ![]()
